#Comments and Beloved Binge in the media

We were thrilled to be interviewed by Creative Loafing, for our band’s Charlotte show on May 18th at the Double Door, with Jon Camp — transfixing wizardry pop — and the local awesome Avian Law. Above image by Kim Gray. Invite to the show. The author, Anita Overcash, did a great job in describing not only our band and philosophy, but how our lil’ #Comments adventure is connected to all of the above.   Super happy about this article.  Thank you, Creative Loafing! Read it here.   See you soon!   … Keep goin’

Perhaps I’m insane: Notes on commitment

Full disclosure: I’m not getting committed. Yet. A couple of years ago, Rob and I talked about moving to New York City eventually for a year as an experiment.  The usual reasons (for me) applied:  Life is short, I want to explore as much as possible before it ends.  As I enter the potential half-way mark for time in the world, the phrase “I’ll do that … someday” seems … not applicable.  There is less future and more now.   This sense of urgency began for me about 5 years ago when I realized that I’d never be able to … Keep goin’

Syba, the patriot. More below.

Official video for “Faces” from the “Other Places” album by Beloved Binge.

I can’t recall the exact year, but I probably wrote Faces in Seattle around 2004. We recorded the song in 2006 at Zero Return Studios in Atlanta’s Cabbage Town neighborhood. It was our first “professional” recording experience, and one we’ll not forget soon.

Recording “Faces”

Rob and I crammed in about 14 songs in two days, including mixing and mastering, all analog.  Our recording engineer smoked non-stop, and Rob exhibited nicotine withdrawal symptoms as we made our way home.  The engineer, who was friendly and kind to us, was so authentically in love with analog that other employees had to remove all computers from his mixing/recording room prior to his arrival (to avoid upsetting him).

We took our analog reels and left that studio smiling like clowns. But not as scary.

Creating the “Faces” video

Due to other obligations, a video was never made for this song. Well, almost a decade later, I’m correcting that!

On our last road trip/tour I took a series of photos as we traveled across country touring with our band and visiting family.  I called them “Syba Selfies” since they were of our dog Syba in all the places we visited.

It was a ton of fun to capture all of Syba’s varying expressions and map out our route in the little Westfalia Vanagon passenger mirror. Hope you like it too!

I don’t like people

Beloved Binge

In my other life, I am the drummer for “misfit pop” duo Beloved Binge.  One of our more popular songs, interestingly enough, is about not liking (but trying to like!) people. I’ve uploaded a new video for the song – and wanted to share with you, too.  Featuring old Atari E.T. video game footage, and other space adventure, because: Nothing says alienation like aliens.   I don’t like people Do you like people?  How are you trying?     … Keep goin’
